Road Closed a Year: Residents' Emotions Boil
7 Jan
Summary
- Kidmore Road has been closed for a year due to waterworks.
- Residents have experienced worry, anger, and frustration.
- Repairs are expected to continue into February 2026.

A year-long waterworks disruption on Kidmore Road in Caversham Heights, Berkshire, has left residents feeling a "host of emotions," according to local councillor Isobel Ballsdon. The road collapsed in January 2025 following a water pipe burst, though initial problems were reported in 2024.
Significant inconvenience has arisen, including difficulties with parking and relocated bus stops. Councillor Ballsdon noted that despite meetings held in the summer, the roadworks are still ongoing with no firm completion date, leading to understandable frustration and upset among residents who cannot conduct their daily business as usual.
Thames Water stated that additional work is necessary for long-term ground stabilization and safety, a plan agreed upon with Reading Borough Council. The repair program has been extended, with work now scheduled to continue into February 2026 to prevent future issues.
