Kerala's power distribution network has sustained significant damage from recent extreme rains, with preliminary assessments indicating losses of Rs 25.43 crore to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). The heavy downpour, which occurred over the weekend, led to widespread power outages affecting approximately 6,56,770 consumers.
The damage assessment revealed that 349 high-tension and 2,599 low-tension poles were broken, alongside numerous snapped power lines. More than 2,800 transformers were impacted, with 233 completely submerged. Power supply has yet to be restored for over 63,000 consumers.
Restoration work is actively being coordinated by KSEB through circle-level control rooms. However, power supply can only fully resume in flood-affected areas once waters recede and safety protocols can be implemented. Kannur and Pathanamthitta districts experienced the most severe disruptions.
