In a remarkable display of rapid response, kayakers have been commended for their swift actions that saved a man's life near Sedbergh. The individual, part of a recreational group, became unresponsive in the water on Sunday.
Emergency services were dispatched following a 999 call, arriving within minutes. However, some kayakers in the group had already commenced Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by the time the first responders reached the scene.
Paramedics then took over the critical care, employing a mobile defibrillator to aid the man. He is currently in hospital, where his condition is stable, and he is being treated for hypothermia and cardiac issues.
