Karma Puja Tragedy: 12 Drownings Across Bihar

Karma Puja festivities in Bihar were marred by tragedy, as at least 12 people lost their lives in separate drowning incidents across several districts. The sorrowful events unfolded over a 24-hour period, impacting Patna, Banka, Jamui, Aurangabad, and Nalanda. Tragically, seven of the deceased were girls, highlighting the devastating nature of these mishaps.

The majority of these incidents were linked to ritualistic activities, including bathing and the immersion of Karma Puja idols in various water bodies. In Patna district alone, multiple tragedies occurred, with rescue operations continuing late into Wednesday for those still missing.

Aurangabad reported two drowning deaths, one of which involved a teenager attempting to rescue friends. Banka district tragically recorded four deaths, including three schoolgirls who drowned in a pond. Jamui and Nalanda also reported multiple drownings during festival rituals. Authorities have initiated rescue and search operations, while local communities are raising concerns about water body safety during festivals.
