Karachi was battered by heavy rains on Thursday, resulting in five fatalities and widespread urban flooding. Four individuals succumbed to electrocution, while a fifth person died when a building structure collapsed. The city recorded significant rainfall, with Nazimabad receiving the highest amount at 69.6 millimeters, leading to inundated roads and disruptions.
Power outages affected many parts of the metropolis for hours after the downpour, impacting approximately 500 feeders operated by K-Electric. Despite the intensity of the storm, civic bodies, led by Mayor Murtaza Wahab, appeared better prepared than in previous events, with major thoroughfares cleared relatively quickly.
However, low-lying residential areas continued to face challenges with persistent rainwater accumulation. Mayor Wahab stated that the overall situation was under control, with municipal teams actively managing drainage and emergency responses across the city.
