On October 7th, 2025, a blast occurred in Kanpur, India, injuring 8 people. The Commissioner of Police, Raghveer Lal, has since suspended 5 police personnel and removed the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kotwali Ashutosh Kumar.
The investigation has revealed that the blast was caused by the illegal storage of fireworks. A significant amount of fireworks was seized near the shop where the explosion took place. Additionally, a large quantity of explosive materials used in making high-intensity fireworks was found in a nearby warehouse.
The Commissioner stated that action was taken against the police officers because, despite the upcoming Diwali festival, no proper drive against illegal fireworks was conducted, leading to this incident. Of the 8 injured, 4 were in critical condition and referred to a hospital in Lucknow, while 2 sustained minor injuries and were sent home after primary treatment.
