A ceiling plaster collapse at the Government Pre-University College for Girls in Kalaburagi on Friday morning resulted in minor injuries to three first-year commerce students. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. in a classroom with over 80 students present.
Sheetal Basavaraj, Divya Subhash, and Sneha Kashinath were taken to the District Trauma Centre for treatment. Deputy Commissioner Ikram Shariff and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Sankanur visited the hospital, where doctors confirmed the students were in stable condition following CT scans and other tests.
One student sustained a head injury, while the other two had shoulder and back injuries. Doctors advised that the students would remain under observation for 24 hours. The Deputy Commissioner ordered treatment according to medical protocol and informed parents not to panic.
Concerns have been amplified regarding the maintenance of government educational institutions, with parents and local residents citing inadequate upkeep and structural deterioration. Kalaburagi South MLA Allamprabhu Patil visited the college and instructed officials to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into construction or maintenance deficiencies.
The district administration has requested a report on preventive measures and directed an assessment of the building's structural safety, with orders to undertake necessary corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
