K-9 Havoc Survives Emergency Surgery

Oxford Police K-9 Havoc is on the mend following life-saving emergency surgery for bloat. Last Friday, Officer Miranda Schoening noticed troubling symptoms during a training session. Havoc refused water and exhibited distress, prompting Schoening to suspect bloat, a condition with a high fatality rate if untreated.
Schoening immediately transported Havoc to a veterinary clinic, where Dr. Dan Caldwell performed emergency surgery. The veterinarian also implemented a procedure to reduce the risk of recurrence. Havoc, a 2-and-a-half-year-old yellow lab, returned to duty on light duty on Monday.
He is expected to have his staples removed on Wednesday and be fully cleared for duty by Friday. Havoc is certified in explosives and tracking and is slated to add firearms and article detection to his skills upon recertification.
