He remained with her until the fire service arrived, who then utilized his equipment to cool the car's engine. McDermott explained he felt compelled to help, knowing he had water and the necessary tools readily available. The incident, while resulting in significant damage to the car, also led to the successful rescue of expensive horse-riding equipment from inside the vehicle.
