Tragedy struck West Jerusalem when two infants died and over 50 other babies and toddlers were hospitalized after becoming ill at an unlicensed daycare center. The nursery, reportedly operating in an apartment building in the Romema neighborhood, saw emergency services rush to the scene following reports of unconscious babies.
First responders attempted resuscitation on the youngest victims, aged three months and six months, but were unsuccessful. The remaining 53 children were transported to local hospitals for urgent medical examination and treatment. The cause of the illnesses remains under investigation, with initial speculation about toxic gas debunked by the Fire and Rescue Authority.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch condemned the incident, highlighting that the facility operated without a license or oversight. He has since directed authorities to develop a plan to shut down all unlicensed daycare centers across the nation, emphasizing the need for stricter regulation following this devastating event.
