The earthquake's epicentre was located at a depth of 70 kilometers. Significant shaking was felt in cities like Yatsushiro and Uto, as well as towns of Mashiki and Misato. Power supply was disrupted to approximately 45,600 households across Kumamoto Prefecture following the quake.
This event occurred over a decade after the devastating April 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes. Those earlier quakes resulted in significant loss of life and widespread damage, including to the historic Kumamoto Castle, which is undergoing extensive restoration.
