In Jaisalmer, a 35-year-old woman reportedly made two harrowing suicide attempts within moments of each other. The ordeal began when she set herself ablaze inside her home in the Mohangarh police station area.
Alerted by screams from children playing nearby, neighbours broke down the door and pulled the woman from the burning room. In a state of distress, she immediately ran towards the road, attempting to jump in front of a moving truck. Bystanders quickly intervened, restraining her and preventing the second attempt.
The woman was subsequently rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Police stated that she had locked herself in the house before the fire. Initial findings indicate she used a lamp from the home temple to ignite her clothes.
Authorities are investigating the incident, considering both the woman's reported long-term depression and treatment, as well as potential domestic issues. Her husband, who runs a local tea stall, is among those from whom statements have been recorded.
