In the aftermath of a tragic bus accident in Jaisalmer, authorities have been working to identify the victims and return their remains to their families. As of October 16, 2025, 18 of the 19 bodies recovered from the charred bus have been identified and handed over to their respective hometowns.
The district administration teams from Jodhpur and Jaisalmer have been coordinating the assistance to the bereaved families. Of the recovered remains, nine were identified at AIIMS and nine at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Jodhpur.
Meanwhile, the department of transport and road safety has launched a detailed investigation into the accident. Authorities have begun inspecting buses manufactured by Jainam Coach Crafter in Jodhpur, seizing 66 buses there and five in Jaisalmer for potential violations of bus body code standards. A five-member panel, including RSRTC engineers, has been formed to look into the technical and departmental lapses that may have contributed to the tragedy. The transport department has urged all bus operators to cooperate with the ongoing safety inspection drive to prevent such incidents in the future. Authorities have also appealed to citizens to contact the helpline numbers if they have any information about missing persons related to the Jaisalmer bus accident.
