In a devastating incident on Tuesday morning near Jaipur, a multi-axle trailer truck traveling at high speed collided with a road divider and ran over five members of a family. The accident, which occurred around 8:46 AM on the Ajmer-Jaipur National Highway, claimed the lives of 40-year-old Chandra Prakash and his three sons, Ramesh (11), Gopal (10), and Deepak (8).
Prakash's wife, Kailashi (35), sustained multiple fractures and is in critical condition at the SMS Hospital Trauma Centre. The family, originally from Jaitpura village in Rajsamand district, resided in rented accommodation and earned a living selling brooms. They were reportedly waiting for a bus to return to their village when the tragedy struck.
Initial police investigations suggest that overspeeding was the primary cause of the crash. The truck, carrying plaster of Paris from Delhi to Ajmer, reportedly had five pending traffic challans. The driver and his helper absconded immediately after the collision. Local residents assisted in pulling the victims from a nearby drain, and a crane was used to remove the truck.
