In Indore's Bhagirathpura area, a devastating outbreak of vomiting and diarrhea, allegedly caused by contaminated drinking water, has led to the death of two-year-old Siya Prajapati. Affectionately known as "Laddu," Siya first fell ill on December 27, with her condition deteriorating despite hospital treatment. Her father recounts the harrowing experience, noting her liver became infected with pus, a severe complication.
Siya's family lives in a rented home in the affected Bhagirathpura neighborhood. Her father expressed immense grief, stating that no financial aid can replace their beloved child. He also faced difficulties with activating their Ayushman health card during his daughter's critical hospitalization. Locals report at least 35 deaths linked to the outbreak, which began in late December.
A judicial inquiry, headed by former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Sushil Kumar Gupta, is currently investigating the contaminated water tragedy. The Madhya Pradesh government has offered financial assistance of ₹2 lakh to families of over 20 victims, though officials note some deaths were due to unrelated causes. The assistance was provided on humanitarian grounds.
