Rescue officials reported that 10 people remain missing following the incident, which occurred a week prior. Heavy rainfall was identified as the cause of the landslip that struck Pasirlangu village, located southeast of the capital Jakarta.
The disaster resulted in damage to over 50 houses and forced approximately 650 residents to evacuate their homes. A large-scale rescue operation involving thousands of personnel from the military, police, and volunteers has been actively searching through the mud for victims. By Saturday, 53 bodies had been recovered and identified. The Indonesian navy confirmed that 23 of its personnel, who were undergoing training in the affected area, were among those caught in the landslip.
