Govt Studies NSOPs Post-Baramati Tragedy
15 Feb
Summary
- A thorough study of non-scheduled operators and uncontrolled airfields is underway.
- The investigation follows a fatal LearJet crash near Baramati on January 28.
- The DGCA has initiated a special safety audit of non-scheduled operators.

The Civil Aviation Ministry is undertaking a detailed examination of flight operations conducted by non-scheduled operators (NSOPs) and the safety of uncontrolled airfields. This initiative was prompted by the tragic crash of a VSR Ventures LearJet 45 near Baramati on January 28, which resulted in five fatalities, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has commenced a special safety audit targeting NSOPs, intensifying regulatory oversight. Uncontrolled airfields, like Baramati where traffic information relies on flying training organizations, are also part of this comprehensive review.
The LearJet 45 crash is currently under investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), with a preliminary report anticipated soon. Air traffic control records indicate the aircraft did not provide a readback of landing clearance before the accident occurred.
