Summary
- Multiple amusement ride and cable car accidents have occurred across India.
- Recent incidents include a swing collapse in Haryana and roller coaster fatalities.
- Past tragedies involved Ferris wheels, ropeways, and other thrill rides.

A fatal swing ride collapse at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Haryana has brought to light a recurring issue of amusement ride and cable car accidents across India. The incident on Saturday in Faridabad resulted in the death of a police inspector and left several others injured, leading authorities to suspend ride operations and initiate an inquiry.
This event echoes numerous past tragedies. In 2026, a giant swing in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, injured 14 schoolchildren. The previous year, 2025, saw a fatality on a South West Delhi roller coaster due to seat belt failure, a stalled thrill ride in Chennai stranding 30 people, and a tower ride malfunction in Kolhapur leaving 18 stranded.
Further back, 2025 also witnessed a tragic cable snap on the Pavagadh hill ropeway in Gujarat, causing six deaths. Other incidents include a Nainital ropeway halt in 2023 stranding 12, a Deoghar ropeway collision in 2022 that killed two, a Kankaria Amusement Park pendulum ride crash in 2019 with two fatalities, and a Darjeeling ropeway failure in 2003 that claimed four lives.
