20 Mar
Summary
- Over 61,000 Hyundai Palisade SUVs recalled in the U.S.
- A fatal accident linked to power seat issue occurred.
- The power seats may fail to detect occupants or objects.

Hyundai Motor is recalling 61,093 Palisade SUVs in the United States following a fatal accident linked to a power seat malfunction. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall on Friday, March 20, 2026.
The issue affects certain 2026 model year Palisade and Palisade Hybrid vehicles. The second and third-row power seats may not correctly detect the presence of an occupant or any objects as intended, posing a significant safety risk.
Last week, Hyundai announced it would halt sales of some new Palisade SUVs in the U.S. and Canada due to this power seat defect. This decision followed a tragic incident on March 7, where a two-year-old girl died in Ohio. A remedy for the issue is currently under development, and Hyundai will provide interim power seat control software updates.
