Hyderabad New Year Tragedy: 1 Dead, Dozens Sick

A New Year's Eve gathering in Hyderabad ended in tragedy on December 31st, 2025, with one attendee confirmed dead and more than a dozen others hospitalized. The incident occurred in Jagadgiri Gutta, Quthbullapur area, where 17 individuals celebrated the new year.
Following consumption of alcohol and a meal prepared on-site, attendees experienced severe illness. Pandu, aged 53, succumbed to the illness during treatment. Nine others who lost consciousness were rushed to Narayana Malla Reddy Hospital, while two more received care at Ram Dev Hospital.
Local police have initiated an investigation, collecting food samples for laboratory analysis and recording statements from the affected individuals. Authorities are examining possibilities of food poisoning and the consumption of adulterated liquor to ascertain the cause of the mass illness and fatality. The condition of the hospitalized patients is reported as stable as of January 2nd, 2026.
