23 Apr
Summary
- Mercedes owner remains untraceable after fatal crash
- Vehicle registered to a Kolkata company but has had five owners
- Businessman Shyam Raj died after being hit by the speeding car

Authorities in Hyderabad are intensifying their search for the driver of a Mercedes-Benz responsible for a fatal collision on the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge during the early hours of April 19, 2024. The crash tragically claimed the life of 32-year-old businessman Shyam Raj, who was struck by the speeding vehicle, resulting in severe injuries and his subsequent death. The driver fled the scene, leaving the luxury car abandoned.
Investigations revealed the Mercedes, registered to Kolkata-based Quantum Minerals and Metals Pvt Ltd, has passed through five different owners over the past decade. The financial institution that financed the car initially repossessed it due to defaulted EMIs about ten years ago. It was then auctioned and subsequently sold multiple times before reaching its current owner, a software professional in Hyderabad, who is now considered the prime suspect.
Despite obtaining the owner's last known addresses and contact numbers, police have been unable to locate him as the provided numbers are switched off. The car was reportedly sold to its current owner on November 6, 2024, for Rs 4.5 lakh by a city-based car dealer. Efforts are underway to track the accused, and the police have also contacted the original Kolkata-based company for an explanation regarding the vehicle's registration status.
