Hospital Plaster Collapse Injures Doctor, Patient
7 Jul
Summary
- Plaster and fan fell during consultation, injuring doctor and patient.
- Health department flagged alleged negligence by the PWD.
- Hospital has repeatedly sought repairs since August 2025.
During a consultation on Monday, a portion of the OPD plaster and a ceiling fan collapsed at the Government Satellite Hospital in Alwar, injuring a doctor and a patient. This incident has led the health department to raise concerns about alleged negligence by the Public Works Department (PWD).
Officials highlighted that the hospital's principal medical officer had sent multiple requests for urgent repairs to the PWD executive engineer, starting from August 4, 2025, and continuing through June 29, 2026. Despite sanctioned funds, effective repair work had not commenced, exacerbating safety risks, especially with the approaching rainy season.
Principal secretary, health and medical education, Gayatri Rathore, has taken cognizance and requested a factual report from the Alwar district collector. She also urged the additional chief secretary, PWD, for immediate structural repairs and accountability. Rathore assured that all government hospital buildings across the state would undergo regular reviews to ensure timely repairs and structural improvements in coordination with relevant departments.
