- Veteran mountaineer suffered critical injuries from a severe fall.
- Rescuers' quick thinking and compassion likely saved her life.

A seasoned mountaineer, Jacque Tietijen, experienced a life-threatening incident during a solo hike at Utah's Bridal Veil Falls on February 3. Despite her extensive experience, including summiting Mount Everest, Tietijen sustained critical injuries, possibly from a fall or a rock strike, leaving her unconscious for over an hour.
Two passing hikers discovered Tietijen after following a trail of her blood. They provided immediate aid, wrapping her in their coats to maintain her body temperature, before her rescue. She was subsequently airlifted to Utah Valley Hospital and is currently receiving treatment for severe injuries, including brain bleeds and skull fractures.
Doctors are monitoring Tietijen for severe brain swelling, with potential surgery required if swelling increases. Her family has expressed profound gratitude to the rescuers, emphasizing their role in saving her life. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support her recovery, with a goal of $28,000, having already raised nearly $25,000.
