A serious multi-vehicle incident on Highway 20 in Nevada County left one driver with life-threatening injuries Friday morning. The chaos unfolded near Grass Valley when a Volkswagen collided with a semi-truck, causing immediate traffic slowdowns.
Shortly after the initial crash, a secondary collision occurred as other motorists reacted to the stalled traffic. The driver of the Volkswagen had to be extricated from the wreckage and was airlifted to a hospital. Two additional minor collisions also took place during the ensuing slowdown.
Authorities closed both directions of Highway 20 for approximately an hour to manage the scene. The California Highway Patrol is using this incident to remind drivers of the importance of reducing speed, staying alert, and following emergency personnel's instructions to prevent further accidents.
