On November 10, 2025, a heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Melbourne, Australia, as a mother and her young son drowned in a local creek. Fariba Hussainzada, 33, and her 6-year-old son Farzad were swept away in Dandenong Creek after the boy fell into the water.
Fariba, described by her cousin as a "very caring mother" and "full of energy and loving," immediately went to the aid of her son, but both were pulled from the water unconscious. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, Fariba and Farzad were pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred around 3:45 pm local time, with a witness reporting that the pair had been swept away after the child fell into the creek. Police conducted a search and recovered the unconscious victims, but were unable to revive them.
Fariba, originally from Afghanistan, had lived in Australia for 10 years. Her son Farzad was a student at Doveton College in Melbourne, where the school community is now deeply saddened by the tragic loss.
