Prior Lake Officer Cody Steinhaus and his father, Fire Chief Rick Steinhaus, were recently honored by the City Council. This recognition stems from their swift actions in April 2020, when they saved the life of a critically injured 6-year-old boy, Myles Chacha.
The young boy was involved in a horrific car accident east of Prior Lake when his family's car collided with a freight truck. Tragically, Myles's father and older brother did not survive the crash. Myles himself suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and now relies on a wheelchair for mobility.
Despite his challenges, Myles's mother describes him as a happy and smiling child who loves telling dad jokes. She credits the immediate and effective response of Officer Steinhaus and Fire Chief Steinhaus with saving her son's life, referring to his survival as a miracle and expressing immense gratitude for the second chance they provided.
The City Council recognized the Steinhaus father-son duo for their selfless acts, acknowledging both the profound loss experienced by the Chacha family and the heroic efforts of the first responders. The event highlighted the critical importance of rapid emergency response in life-or-death situations.
