Summary

- She was fatally injured during the attack on February 27.
- A GoFundMe has been established for her husband and children.

A heroic young mother lost her life on February 27 in Big River, California, while shielding her 5-year-old son from a fatal dog attack. The incident occurred at her mother's residence when the child ventured too close to newborn puppies, triggering aggressive behavior from three adult dogs, including the mother of the litter.
Emily Panuco, 26, intervened to protect her son, Jesse, and sustained severe, fatal injuries. Her son received treatment for two severe bite wounds. Animal control euthanized the three dogs involved in the attack.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $36,000 to assist Panuco's husband and their children, a 7-month-old daughter Rosmé and Jesse, covering funeral expenses and providing support for their healing.
Her husband, Richie, described Emily as a joyful and supportive individual and a devoted mother and guardian to her 16-year-old sister, Saralynn. Her family noted one of the dogs had previously been abandoned and taken in by her mother.
