An additional shelter at Kaneohe District Park was opened early due to heavy rains in Waimanalo.
Maui County is preparing to open three emergency shelters at 5 p.m. today: South Maui Community Park Gym in Kihei, Hana High School Cafeteria in Hāna, and Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku. The duration of their operation will depend on weather severity.
Both Oahu and Maui shelters are pet-friendly, requiring pets to be leashed or in carriers, and owners are advised to bring their own essential supplies like food and water. Residents can sign up for HNL Alert for urgent notifications regarding the storm and shelter updates.
