Gurugram Flood Drill Simulates Deadly Scenarios

A comprehensive disaster management drill was conducted on Thursday in Gurugram's DLF Phase 1 and Signature Tower underpasses. The exercise aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of response capabilities, incident response systems, evacuation procedures, medical preparedness, and resource mobilization during urban flood emergencies. These locations were identified as highly vulnerable to waterlogging.

The drill simulated heavy rainfall and waterlogging, featuring mock rescue and relief operations. A simulated scenario included 23 injured persons, eight simulated drowning deaths in trapped vehicles, and seven electrocution deaths due to live wires and floodwaters. Medical emergencies like snakebites were also incorporated.

Emergency response teams treated injured individuals at a polyclinic and relief centers after first aid. Approximately 75 personnel from Gurugram Police, along with teams from the district administration, health department, NDRF, GMDA, and MCG, participated. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the critical nature of the initial disaster phase and the establishment of a district disaster operation center.

Furthermore, the administration is actively training 750 'Yuva Aapda Mitra' volunteers for disaster management, comprising individuals from NCC, NSS, My Bharat, and Bharat Scouts and Guides.
