More than 38,000 individuals have been evacuated from the flood-stricken areas, with approximately 2,000 seeking refuge in government camps. The floods have inflicted significant damage on homes, infrastructure, and transportation networks, disrupting normal life and isolating several villages.
Torrential monsoon rainfall triggered the crisis, with Mehemdabad recording an exceptional 507 mm of rain in a single day. While the intensity of rainfall has lessened in southern Gujarat, it has shifted towards the northern parts of the state and Saurashtra. Health teams are implementing measures to prevent disease outbreaks, including water chlorination in affected communities.
