USDA Warns of Metal Contamination in Beef
24 Mar
Summary
- Ground beef recalled due to possible metal fragment contamination.
- Product sold at Mom's Organic Markets in multiple states.
- FSIS urges consumers not to eat the affected beef.

A public health alert was issued on March 23, 2026, by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) concerning ground beef potentially contaminated with metal fragments. The affected product is "White Oak Pastures, Radically Traditional Farming, Grassfed Ground Beef" sold in 16-ounce packages.
The ground beef, produced on February 26, 2026, and bearing establishment number EST 34729 and a sell-by date of March 19, 2026, was distributed to Mom's Organic Markets in Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
FSIS initiated the alert after receiving two consumer complaints about metal pieces in the product. Although no injuries or illnesses have been confirmed, consuming metal fragments can pose a health risk. The agency is advising consumers to discard or return the product.
Since the product is no longer for sale, a formal recall was not requested. FSIS issued the alert to warn consumers who might still have the ground beef at home. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact White Oak Pastures.
