A hiker is recovering after a harrowing encounter with a grizzly bear on May 28. The incident occurred on a popular trail as the hiker, Daniel Crago, ventured ahead on a snow-covered section for photos. He was subsequently attacked by a large grizzly bear.
The bear dragged Crago between 20 and 30 feet, leaving him with a severe arm injury that required immediate medical attention. Nearby hikers provided crucial assistance, stabilizing his arm and discouraging the bears' return. Emergency responders were contacted, and Crago was airlifted to a hospital for surgery.
Crago has undergone three surgeries and anticipates at least one more. He is now facing substantial medical expenses. A fundraiser has been created to support his recovery, with any excess funds to be donated to the wildlife organization. Glacier National Park is home to a significant bear population, including approximately 300 grizzly bears.
