In October 2025, the Borate family in Hinjewadi, Pune is still reeling from the tragic loss of their 13-year-old daughter Pratyusha, who was killed in a cement truck accident two months ago. Pratyusha's mother, Vaishali, has attempted self-harm twice since the incident, while her 14-year-old brother remains in a state of trauma, unable to shed a tear.
Pratyusha's father, Santosh, has quit his job to persistently visit police stations and government offices, demanding action against the builder whose truck killed his daughter and urging authorities to make the roads in Hinjewadi safer. The family has also started the Pratyusha Foundation to support other victims' families in similar accidents.
On October 11th, Vaishali led local residents in a protest against the authorities' failure to ensure road safety in the area. A candlelight march is also planned in the evening to highlight the police's inability to prevent recurring accidents caused by heavy vehicles. "If this were a politician's daughter, would the roads still have been this bad?" Vaishali questioned.
The Borate family refuses to accept any settlement offers, determined to seek justice for their daughter. "We want accountability fixed and safer infrastructure ensured for all residents," said Santosh. Residents of Hinjewadi have been consistently following up with the authorities regarding the serious infrastructure issues in the area, but with no meaningful action taken so far.
