Summary
- Over 500,000 power tools recalled due to fire risk.
- 34 reports of batteries sparking, smoking, or catching fire.
- Customers can get free replacement batteries from Greenworks.

Greenworks Tools has initiated a recall for 554,780 Kobalt-branded power tools, including trimmers, blowers, and mowers, due to a significant fire hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that the lithium-ion batteries, featuring a USB-C charging port, have been involved in 34 incidents. These incidents included reports of batteries smoking, sparking, or igniting while inserted in the tool and charging.
No injuries or property damage have been associated with these incidents as of July 19, 2026. The affected products were sold at Lowe's retail and online stores between January 2026 and May 2026. Greenworks is offering free replacement batteries to all affected customers. These new batteries will feature a charging adapter instead of the problematic USB-C port.
Customers are urged to cease using the USB-C charging batteries immediately and to remove them from the product before charging. To obtain a replacement, consumers must submit an online claim. Greenworks has also provided a customer service number, 1-888-266-7096, for additional assistance. The full list of affected models is available on the CPSC and Greenworks websites.
