Christmas Floods Leave Vulnerable Adults Homeless

Vulnerable residents at MacLehose Court in Greenock were forced from their homes just before Christmas due to severe flooding. This marks the fourth such incident since November, with residents suspecting issues with a nearby drain and recent stormy weather. The situation left many in distress, including a paraplegic woman who waited seven hours for alternative accommodation and ended up in a hospital overnight.

Several individuals have been displaced from their homes, with one elderly couple having their furniture and floors ruined. They have been offered a place in another care home, but face uncertainty about when they can return to MacLehose Court. Families expressed frustration over the slow response from Blackwood Homes and Care, citing a lack of on-site staff and the need to arrange transportation for belongings themselves.

Blackwood Homes and Care stated that resolving the flooding is a top priority and they are working with local authorities and Scottish Water. While immediate safety and temporary accommodation have been addressed, the underlying causes of the persistent flooding are still under investigation. The council is supporting Blackwood with repairs and resident relocation efforts.
