A community is in mourning following the tragic death of 16-year-old Grace Lynch, who died in a scrambler crash on Ratoath Road in Finglas, North Dublin, last Sunday. Her funeral mass at Rivermount Church was attended by hundreds of mourners, including students and firefighters who formed a guard of honour. Grace was remembered by her mother as an "artist" who made people "feel happy just to be around her" and who was "only starting her life."
During the service, Father Seamus Aherne spoke somberly about the dangers of scramblers, warning that "mad youngsters full of bravado" on these vehicles "will kill and be killed." He acknowledged the community's pain and anger, stating that "the lives of all here have been deeply affected." The Taoiseach has pledged to remove scramblers from public roads in the wake of Grace's death.
Mourners wore red, Grace's favorite color, and her self-portrait was presented during the service, further illustrating her artistic spirit. Her family expressed that their lives "will never be the same again" following the loss of their beloved daughter. The funeral also saw attendance from Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald.
