Seven-year-old Nyla May Bradshaw tragically lost her life just hours after being entrusted to a new babysitter. The incident occurred on March 30 when Nyla was found deceased in a pond at Owston Hall Golf Course in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
Nyla's mother had dropped her autistic daughter off with a specialist childminder for the first time that morning. Due to Nyla's complex needs, including being non-verbal and lacking danger awareness, her mother had given clear instructions for her to be kept indoors. However, these instructions were reportedly ignored.
The childminder, who claimed to be an Autism Specialist Disorder specialist, later informed Nyla's mother that the child was missing. Police were subsequently called, but tragically, Nyla was found dead.
This event has prompted calls for action from charities like Little Rainbows, who highlight systemic failures in the care of disabled children. They point to a dangerous gap in support during school holidays when such children require constant supervision, which is often not adequately funded.
