A shocking incident unfolded on Queensland's Fraser Island following a New Year's Day joyride that left a 4WD submerged in sand. The vehicle, believed to be a Toyota Hilux, was discovered on Thursday morning near the Yidney Rock Bypass on the island's east side.
Despite the presence of emergency crews and attempts to extricate the vehicle using a digger, it remained stuck. Adding to the dismay, footage later revealed that opportunistic thieves had plundered the abandoned 4WD, stripping it of its wheels, registration plates, and canopy contents.
Local authorities confirmed they have been in contact with the vehicle's owner. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unforgiving nature of the beach environment, especially within designated speed zones, highlighting the consequences of reckless driving.
