15 Aug
Summary
- A new wildfire has rapidly spread near Luglon, France.
- Around 1,600 hectares of forest and scrubland are ablaze.
- 650 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

A significant wildfire broke out near Luglon in France's Landes region on Thursday and is spreading rapidly. The blaze has already consumed approximately 1,600 hectares of forest and scrubland, necessitating the precautionary evacuation of around 650 people. Fortunately, no homes have been impacted by the flames to date.
This new fire occurs in the wake of devastating wildfires that affected the Landes and Gironde regions recently. Those earlier blazes prompted the evacuation of tens of thousands of tourists and residents along the Atlantic coast. Firefighting efforts are intensive, involving approximately 550 firefighters supported by Canadair aircraft and a heavy-lift Chinook helicopter from Australia.
The Chinook helicopter, capable of carrying over 11,300 liters of water, significantly aids the firefighting operations. Previous incidents in late July saw around 3,700 hectares burn near Biscarrosse and approximately 42,000 hectares near Saumos in the neighboring Gironde region, highlighting the persistent threat of wildfires during the current heatwave and drought conditions.
