Tragedy has struck again as a fourth individual, 22-year-old Khushboo Kharetwal, succumbed to suspected food poisoning on Wednesday morning. She had been receiving treatment at AIIMS Nagpur following a rapid deterioration of her condition, experiencing severe liver damage and uncontrolled blood pressure. Her death brings the total fatalities to four, with two other people still fighting for their lives in a private hospital.
The source of the poisoning is believed to be sweets found in an unclaimed bag outside the Public Health Engineering office in Junnardeo, Madhya Pradesh, on January 9. Investigations into the exact cause of death are ongoing, with post-mortem examinations not yet revealing definitive results. Samples from the sweets have been sent for chemical analysis.
Among the deceased are Dasru Yaduvanshi, 53, and Sunderlal Kathuria, 75, who also consumed the contaminated sweets. Khushboo Kharetwal, who has been referred to Nagpur for advanced treatment, is survived by her husband and a four-month-old daughter. The incident has prompted concern and further investigation into the origins of the abandoned sweets.
