Four young men tragically drowned in the Dudhsagar river near Collem, South Goa, on Saturday morning. The deceased have been identified as Ramanna Parsu Mader (19), Laxman Parsu Mader (19), Hiranna Parsu Mader (21), all from Chicalim, and Vijay Sajili (20) from Vasco. The group of five friends had traveled by train from Vasco da Gama for a picnic before the resumption of college classes.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred between 10 am and 10:30 am. The youths entered the river near a bridge at Metawada, believing the water to be shallow. Sadly, this misjudgment led to four of them drowning. While one person was rescued, the other four could not be saved. Lifeguards from Drishti Marine and the Collem police station were involved in retrieving the bodies.
An inquest into the unnatural deaths has been initiated by the Collem police station. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death. This unfortunate event serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with unknown water bodies.
