Four individuals have tragically drowned across Australia's east coast due to hazardous surf conditions. On Thursday, a 45-year-old woman lost her life at Dunbogan Beach on New South Wales' Mid North Coast after being pulled unconscious from the water. Emergency services attempted resuscitation, but she could not be saved.
The series of fatalities began on Thursday morning when a 25-year-old Chinese tourist was swept away from a rock pool at Maroubra Beach in Sydney. Later the same day, a man in his 20s drowned at Coogee Beach after struggling in strong rip currents. An Irish tourist also died in Queensland.
Authorities have issued a severe hazardous surf warning for the coastline, attributing the dangerous conditions to a rapidly deepening low-pressure system. They strongly advise swimmers to avoid the water and the public to stay clear of surf-exposed areas. Rock fishers and boaties are also cautioned about the risks.
