13 Jul
Summary
- Two individuals were filmed fleeing a Folsom grass fire.
- Witnesses believe a firework ignited the blaze near Folsom Lake.
- Fire crews responded quickly to contain the rapidly spreading fire.
A grass fire near the Browns Ravine trailhead below Folsom Lake was quickly contained by fire crews last Saturday evening. Two individuals were observed on camera leaving the scene of the blaze, which witnesses believe was started by a firework. The fire spread rapidly through the thick, dry brush, fueled by the wind. Folsom Fire, Cal Fire, and El Dorado Hills Fire agencies responded promptly to extinguish the flames.
Folsom Fire Battalion Chief Shawn Luce highlighted the resource drain when multiple agencies respond to such incidents. With the holiday approaching, officials reminded the public that even legal fireworks have strict usage parameters, and any fireworks leaving the ground and exploding in Folsom can result in significant fines, up to $5,000 per violation.
