Summary
- Father died after a cooking fire in his Florida apartment.
- His two young children were rescued and are recovering.
- The fire reportedly started from oil left unattended on the stove.

A devastating apartment fire in Gulf County, Florida, on Saturday, May 30, resulted in the tragic death of Walter Bowers III and the near-fatal rescue of his two young children. Arriving officers found the apartment consumed by heavy smoke and located a child near the exit, providing immediate aid.
Despite zero visibility, first responders reentered the residence to rescue a second child and Bowers. All three were transported to local hospitals in critical condition. By Sunday, May 31, the children, aged approximately 5 and 10, were reported to be recovering well and were awake.
Bowers, 34, was sadly declared deceased on June 1. Authorities believe the fire originated from a pot of oil left on the stove while Bowers was preparing to cook, possibly after falling asleep. His family described him as a beloved figure whose loss is deeply felt.
Two of the first responders at the scene were classmates of Bowers, adding a personal layer of grief to the tragedy. The family is focused on supporting the children through this immense loss, and a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist them during this difficult period.
