17 Aug
Summary
- At least 68 people died, over 200 injured after the earthquake.
- Thousands displaced, with over 1,300 homes damaged on Flores island.
- Logistical challenges hamper aid delivery to isolated communities.

Thousands of people on Indonesia's Flores island continue to await essential aid days after a magnitude earthquake claimed at least 68 lives and injured over 200. The quake, which struck Saturday at a depth of 10 kilometers, also caused widespread damage, destroying nearly 250 homes and damaging over 1,300 more on Flores alone. This devastation has forced approximately 5,000 people into temporary shelters as the region grapples with numerous aftershocks.
The province's governor declared a 14-day state of emergency on Sunday, acknowledging the severe impact. Authorities have deployed military and police personnel, alongside aircraft, to distribute 275 tons of aid, but logistical hurdles, including landslides blocking roads, have slowed deliveries to some hard-hit areas. Emergency field hospitals have been established to treat victims, as local facilities were also damaged.
