35,000 Homes Find Flood Insurance Via New Directory
21 Apr
Summary
- Over 35,000 households found flood insurance through a directory.
- The directory launched four years ago to aid flood-prone areas.
- Industry and government collaboration supports homeowners facing flood risk.

A UK flood insurance directory, operational for four years, has aided more than 35,000 households in securing essential flood cover. Launched in February 2022, the initiative aims to connect residents in flood-risk areas with appropriate insurance policies. This significant milestone was announced by industry bodies including the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), the Association of British Insurers (ABI), and Flood Re.
The directory's effectiveness is bolstered by an industry agreement from September 2022, which directs individuals denied flood cover or offered policies with exclusions to the resource. Floods minister Emma Hardy commended the initiative, highlighting its role in providing peace of mind to households facing flood risks. She also noted the government's substantial investment in flood defences.
Graeme Trudgill, CEO of Biba, emphasized the directory's consistent delivery on its promise to help thousands find protection. The increased usage signifies the success of the signposting agreement. Currently, the directory features 24 approved insurers and brokers, serving as a crucial tool for homeowners not eligible for the Flood Re scheme.
