A tragic explosion occurred at the Krishna Pyrotechnics factory near Sivakasi on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The incident took place around 2 PM while a newly acquired machine for mixing fireworks chemicals was undergoing testing.
The factory, owned by Krishnamoorthy, operates under a license from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation and employs over 200 workers across its three units. Balamurugan, the factory foreman and cashier, died at the scene. The second victim, engineer Ahmed Ibrahim, sustained severe burns and later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that the blast may have been caused by friction within the chemical mixture during the machine's operation. Emergency services, including fire and rescue personnel, responded promptly and managed to extinguish the blaze after a significant effort. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the explosion.
