Firefighters successfully rescued a small dog that had been missing for several weeks. The pup was discovered swimming into the San Francisco Bay near the Dumbarton Bridge on July 16th, having been absent since the Fourth of July weekend.
A coordinated effort by the Menlo Park fire protection district was mobilized to save the animal. The rescue operation utilized multiple resources, including at least two trucks, a boat, and an airboat. Rescuers initially spotted the dog using binoculars from the shore before employing a drone to track its progress from the water.
Assisted by police officers, the firefighters managed to retrieve the dog from the bay. Following the rescue, the pup was handed over to the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The SPCA was then able to locate the dog's family, and the two parties have since been reunited.
