A serious road traffic collision on the B981 near Chapel junction in Fife has led to the tragic deaths of two individuals. The incident, which occurred late on Friday, December 19, 2025, involved a black Nissan Qashqai and a white Volkswagen Polo. Emergency services rushed to the scene where the driver of the Polo, a 48-year-old woman, was sadly pronounced deceased.

Further tragedy struck when a 64-year-old male passenger from the Polo, who had been transported to the hospital for treatment, died on Sunday morning. The driver of the Qashqai, a 33-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with injuries and has since been discharged. She was also arrested in connection with a road traffic offense.

Police Scotland are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and have appealed for witnesses. Anyone who was in the vicinity of the B981 between Cluny and Chapel junction around 11:10 PM on Friday, or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, is urged to come forward. The road was temporarily closed for inquiries and has since reopened.
