A dramatic rescue unfolded in the Bronx last week when an off-duty FDNY firefighter saved a man from a house fire. Lt. James McConville was returning from a run when he saw thick smoke emanating from a neighbor's home. Hearing sounds from within, he entered the burning structure without protective equipment.
Inside, McConville discovered a semi-conscious man on the floor. He bravely dragged the victim towards the exit and returned briefly to close a door, aiming to limit the fire's spread. He then safely removed the man from the house.
Upon finding the victim without a pulse, McConville immediately began CPR and chest compressions. His swift actions were successful, and the man started breathing on his own. Emergency services, comprising 21 units and 79 personnel, responded to the scene. The injured man suffered serious injuries, and no one else was found in the home. The origin of the fire is currently under investigation.
